Open Plan Acoustics – Our Recent Work
Open plan office acoustic design, reverberation control in meeting rooms, background noise mitigation in conference spaces. Some of our recent work from January 2020.
COVID-19:
We remain open, providing a full range of noise assessment and building acoustic design services
We recently conducted an acoustic survey of a set of meetings rooms and open plan offices in the Midlands. These spaces really suffer from poor acoustics, due to the complete lack of acoustic treatment. Conversations can be heard from one side of the office to the other, and walls around the meeting rooms might as well not be there.
Every space was exceptionally reverberant, causing a build up noise levels and making speech intelligibility very difficult, particularly as the space was effectively a call centre.
We conducted an extensive set of tests on site, and then set our minds to how we could provide acoustic solutions. We love a good acoustic model. These are able to be manipulated to show the changes in reverberation, build-up/control of noise levels, and the impact on speech intelligibility and speech privacy, throughout the entire open plan office, in a visual and easy to understand way.
Along with our acoustic modelling, we then create rendered images of what the acoustic treatment solutions might actually look like. We work closely with acoustic treatment suppliers to find cost effective products that look good, fitting in with the aesthetics of the particular office we are assessing.
We’re not architects, but we like to think our renders look OK!
Is there an acoustic, noise, or vibration related topic or problem that you would like explained? Send us an email and one of our acoustic consultants will write an article about it.
